The information we collect
We collect information from you in a number of different circumstances:
when you register with us or fill in forms on our site. This includes information provided at the time of registering to use our site, subscribing to our service, posting material or requesting further services;
when you contribute to or use some of the advanced features on the site;
if you contact us, we may keep a record of that correspondence;
if you complete surveys or respond to questionnaires that we use for research purposes, although you do not have to respond to them;
details of transactions you carry out through our site and of the fulfilment of your orders;

We may collect information about your computer, including where available your IP address, operating system and browser type, for system administration and to report aggregate information to our advertisers. This is statistical data about our users’ browsing actions and patterns, and does not identify any individual.
Why we collect it
We collect information about you so that we can personalise your use of the site, assist your use of the site and improve the site generally. This also helps us to carry out our obligations arising from any contracts entered into between you and us and to notify you about changes to our services.
Depending on your selections for our data protection questions we may arrange for you to be sent information about related products and services from us and carefully selected third parties where you have consented to be contacted for such purposes (see section 6). You may update the answers to your questions at any time.
We may also use your data, or permit selected third parties to use your data, to provide you with information about goods and services which may be of interest to you and we or they may contact you about these by electronic means (e-mail or SMS).
If you are an existing customer, we will only contact you by electronic means (e-mail or SMS) with information about goods and services similar to those which were the subject of a previous sale to you.
If you are a new customer, and were we permit selected third parties to use your data, we (or they) will contact you by electronic means only if you have consented to this. If you do not want us to use your data in this way, or to pass your details on to third parties for marketing purposes, please tick the relevant box situated on the form on which we collect your data.
Who we disclose it to
We will only pass on information about you as an individual to third parties and to members of our group to enable us to perform services requested by you or with your prior consent.
We may engage other group companies and/or carefully selected third party partners, including service providers, joint venture partners and outsource providers to perform various functions on our behalf. To the extent required to perform such functions on our behalf, these companies may process your personal information. Such functions may include processing orders, delivering products and services, processing credit card payments, communicating with you, including providing customer service, via telephone, email, post or otherwise and, with your consent, providing newsletters or details of promotional activities.
Please note that our group companies and third party suppliers may be established in countries that might not offer a level of protection for your personal information that is equivalent to the one offered in your country of residence. However, we will endeavour to protect all personal information we collect from you in accordance with strict data protection standards.
Business restructuring: Like any other organisation, from time to time Steel Storage may restructure its business operations by selling one or more of its businesses (or part of a business) to a buyer either within or outside the global group. In such transactions, your personal information could be transferred as part of the relevant sale.
Compliance with laws and regulations: We may disclose your personal information to third parties, such as official bodies and our professional advisers, as far as we believe it is necessary (i) to comply with relevant laws, orders or regulations; (ii) to enforce our customer terms and conditions of use or other contractual agreements; and (iii) to protect the property and other rights of Steel Storage, its group of companies, customers and others (for example, in any way relating to protection against fraudulent activities)
If you give your consent, we will pass your contact details to third parties who may then occasionally send communications to you to provide information, offers and services that may be of interest to you.
You have the right to ask us not to process your personal data for marketing purposes. We will usual inform you (before collecting your data) if we intend to use your data for such purposes or if we intend to disclose your information to any third party for such purposes.
You can exercise your right to prevent such processing by checking certain boxes on the forms we use to collect your data. You can also exercise the right at any time by contacting us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our site may, from time to time, contain links to and from the websites of our partner networks and affiliates. Who controls your personal information and where it is stored
Information collected by us is controlled by Steel Storage Europe Ltd, Unit B, Twickenham Trading Est, Rugby Road, Twickenham, TW1 1DQ, UK (the ‘data controller’).

Certain sections of the site, such as those relating to payment transactions, may encrypt data using SSL technology or a comparable standard. As a result, whilst we will do our best to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of any information which you send to us, and you do so at your own risk.
Accessing and updating your personal information
